Finding myself along the streets we once haunted
I wandered aimless before the reunion tonight
Dodging shadows of the life I wanted
Cast by buildings where memories hide
Moved among students in the times between classes
Searching their faces as if my friends were around
Froze cold when I caught the scent of your perfume
A breathless statue in a vanishing crowd
I kissed you in the rain
On a side street in Georgetown
We’d spent the evening there
We’d closed the bars all down
And we talked right through ‘til morning
In a little French café then
There’s one thing I’d sworn for sure
I’d never come back again
Sat silent in a cross-town cab ride
Planning my lines like young lovers do
Pulled close but I just sat outside
Paralyzed by the fear of seeing you
I’m 22 and I’ve come calling
You’re in the doorway saying you’re not alone
Now I’m feeling it all again
And I swear I am going home
I kissed you in the rain
On a side street in Georgetown
We’d spent the evening there
We’d closed the bars all down
And we talked right through ‘til morning
In a little French café then
There’s one thing I know for sure
I’ll never come back again
